Class 7 & 8 Camel Trek: A journey to remember

20th August 2024

What a fantastic way to kick off the new semester! Our Class 8 students embarked on the much-anticipated Camel Trek Camp, an adventure that has become a hallmark of our school’s outdoor education program.

This year, the trek took us through the breathtaking and pristine bushland of Orange Creek Station, where our students covered an impressive 60 kilometres alongside five majestic camels. The trek was no small feat. It was a challenging experience that tested the students' endurance, teamwork, and resilience. As they hiked through the diverse landscapes, from the rolling hills to the expansive valleys, they faced the elements head-on, growing both individually and as a group. The journey wasn’t just about covering distance; it was about the bonds formed, the lessons learned, and the memories created.

One of the most unforgettable aspects of the trip was the camaraderie around the campfires. The laughter, the shared stories, and the spontaneous "Hoosh!" calls will echo in our minds for a long time. Nights spent under the stars, away from the distractions of everyday life, offered a unique opportunity for reflection and connection with nature.

Our adventure began at the Camel Farm at Stuarts Well, where the students were introduced to the camels that would accompany them on this journey. The bond between the students and these gentle giants grew stronger with each passing day, as they learned to trust and care for the animals. The trek led us to our base camp near the stunning Rainbow Valley Conservation Reserve, a place where the vibrant colours of the landscape served as a perfect backdrop for our final days of exploration.

With perfect weather conditions throughout the six-day trek, the experience was nothing short of magical. The students returned with a sense of accomplishment and a treasure trove of memories that will stay with them for years to come.

This Camel Trek Camp was more than just a physical challenge; it was an opportunity for our students to step out of their comfort zones, embrace new experiences, and grow in ways they never imagined. We are incredibly proud of their achievements and look forward to seeing how this adventure will shape their future endeavours.
