‘Billy Button” Part time Preschool teacher 2023

The Alice Springs Steiner School is seeking a creative and enthusiastic Preschool teacher to commence in January 2023. The successful applicant will be passionate about education. They will understand Steiner pedagogy and have a willingness to learn more.

About the school

The Alice Springs Steiner School is located 10-minutes from the town of Mparntwe / Alice Springs at the base of Tjoritja ranges. The school is established, having begun in 1996, with classes from Playgroup to Middle school and we have 178 students enrolled. We have an enthusiastic, active, and highly involved parent community and a collegial teacher group who are motivated by sincere love and respect for our students. The school provides strong mentorship in a supportive environment.

As a teacher, you and your students have an incredible landscape to learn from. Embracing place, our local curriculum draws on the incredible knowledge and living culture of the traditional owners of the country surrounding Alice Springs, the Arrernte people.

The part-time days are set, Thursday and Friday during the school term. The hours in Semester One are 11 per week and in Semester Two 13.1 hours.

Essential Criteria:

  • Demonstrated ability to plan, implement and monitor enriching educational programs creatively and effectively.
  • Demonstrated ability to incorporate creative arts, craft, music, verse, and storytelling through a Kindergarten program. 
  • Demonstrated ability to meet the needs of a diverse cohort of learners.
  • A willingness and the interpersonal skills to work cooperatively with children, parents, and colleagues.
  • Diploma level teaching qualification and experience.
  • Compliance with NT child protection requirements.
  • Current Working with Children Ochre card (or ability to obtain)

Desirable Criteria

  • Knowledge and enthusiasm for nature-based education.
  • Steiner Education teaching qualification (training can be provided)
