Honouring the Integrity Childhood

Honouring the Integrity Childhood
28th July 2025

In my decades of working with young children, I’ve seen many changes sweep through education—new policies, shifting expectations, and faster-paced demands. But what I’ve learned, and what we hold close at The Alice Springs Steiner School, is this: the nature of childhood does not change.

Children still need time. Time to play, to imagine, to explore the natural world with all their senses. They need meaningful rhythms, warm human relationships, and the space to develop at their own pace. These foundations of early development are not only timeless—they are vital.

Research and experience show that the early years shape everything that follows. When we support the healthy development of the whole child—body, heart, and mind—we are giving them what they truly need to thrive. Emotional security, rich imaginative play, and sensory experiences form the groundwork for resilience, empathy, and lifelong learning.

On Thursday 31st July at 3:30pm, we invite families to experience this for themselves at our Early Childhood Open Afternoon event. It’s a chance to step into our nurturing environment and see how our play-based, screen-free approach gently meets the real needs of young children. We will have childcare available at this event so parents, can listen to a short presentation about Steiner early childhood program.

While the world rushes ahead, we hold space for childhood. This is not a step backwards—it’s a deeply considered step towards wellbeing.

Come and see. You may find something you've been longing for, too.
